Streptomyces spp. can produce the variety of secondary compounds including antibiotic, anti-cancer.

At the Mycology Lab, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, we are looking for new antibiotics from lichen-associated Actinobacteria which is a new source in antibiotic discovery.

In 2019, we found that ethyl-acetate extract of Streptomyces sp. 4VH3 isolated from Dirinaria applanata displays remarkable antimicrobial activity on methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis with MICs 0.06 and 0.25 µg/mL respectively.

🔬 Recently, in a preliminary experiment, we was looking for the good fermented conditions to enhancing metabolite productions of 4VH3 strain. Remarkably, antibiotic productions are significantly enhanced by biofilm culture (Fig 1).
